Crack in cello - should I take it back?

Just bought a new cello (around �1000) and hoping for it to use for Grade 8 etc. Just noticed that where the neck meets the body, under the fingerboard where the wood is unvarnished, there are a few slight cracks. The cracks are on the neck part, where it is rectangular in shape, not the body. Told by manufacturer this is not a problem - is this correct? Thanks.
