Why does my internet connection keep dieing and the only way to fix it is to reset my router and modem?

I get wireless internet using a Linksys router connected to my parents computer. About every day like clockwork my connection dies and the only way to fix it is to unplug the router and the modem. We've gone through 3 of these routers and each one has the same problem. What's wrong?
